Starting in 1976 with research into probiotic pharmaceuticals and feed additivies and their development and production the Biological Division of CERBIOS further developed its expertise by working on systems and technologies for the cloning, production and purification of recombinant proteins and antibodies for therapeutic use.
The Biological Division of CERBIOS is known all over the world as producer of the probiotic active ingredient Enterococcus faecium SF68®. SF68® has an excellent safety profile and is used in human as well as in animal applications. It is considered one of the best characterized probiotics worldwide. Furthermore, the Biological Division of CERBIOS has developed processes allowing for the microencapsulation of microorganisms. This technology allowed for the first time the application of metabolically active lactic acid bacteria as probiotic feed additives in pelleted feed.
Besides producing its own products, the Biological Division of CERBIOS offers services and third party manufacturing to support its partners and customers in the field of CERBIOS’ competences. Of particular interest are the services offered in the field of recombinant proteins. Ensuring quality, purity and safety, completely synthetic cultivation media are used without creating selective pressure by the addition of antibiotics. In 2009 our facilities were further extended with equipment allowing for the production of clinical batches having a volume of up to 100 liters.
